The ensemble consist of musicians Mr Kunert has met during his career – unlike the Harvestehuder Sinfonieorchester, or the publicly owned Chinese HeFai Symphony Orchestra of which he is also chief conductor, the HCO is an ensemble that consists of musicians which were hand-selected by Mr Kunert, both for their musical skills as well as for composing the optimal sound body together.

While these musicians have been playing together often times before together with or conducted by Mr Kunert, the ensemble’s constellation and name has been newly founded in 2022 under the name of HCO, Hamburg Chamber Orchestra.
