The career of Jens Hamann has been crowned with numerous awards, culminating with his success at the XVI. International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, where he was the prizewinner with the highest-ranking male voice.

The Stuttgart native has been enthusiastically praised by the press as a “robust baritone with a lyrical presence and dramatic capacity,” with an emphasis on his “unbelievably supple” and “balanced in every register” voice and his “exemplary interpretive ability”. His capacity for combining “soothing warmth with vibrant zest and great expression…” impresses as well as his “…balance between musicality and sophistication.” His is a “voice of splendor, which belongs to a mindful singer.”

Jens Hamann was a member of the Stuttgart Hymnus Boys' Choir. He completed his studies with Rudolf Piernay at the Musikhochschule Mannheim. In masterclasses, he has worked with Peter Schreier, Irwin Gage and Wolfram Rieger. Jens Hamann has given concerts in almost every European country as well as in the United States, Japan, China and Russia. He has performed in the major halls of Europe, including the Berliner Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Parco della Musica Rome, as well as at leading festivals such as the Rheingau Musik Festival, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Festival de musique de La Chaise-Dieu and the Musikfest Bremen. Conductors he has worked with include Sigiswald Kuijken, Frieder Bernius, Morten Schuldt-Jensen, Hans-Christoph Rademann und Helmuth Rilling.

In the course of his career he has appeared on countless recordings, receiving praise and awards from the press, among others the German Record Critics' Award ("Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik"), the MIDEM Classical Award and the Diapason d’Or. Among these, the Oratorio de Noël (Carus) and the St John Passion (Challenge Classics) have been praised as reference recordings. Especially worth mentioning is his ongoing contribution to the Bach:vokal project in Stuttgart with Kay Johannsen, performing the entire vocal works of Johann Sebastian Bach. The well-versed ensemble singer is currently collaborating with Frieder Bernius and other vocal soloists on projects culminating in performances at the World Symposium on Choral Music 2020 in Auckland.

Together with the lute virtuoso Thorsten Bleich and the organist Christian Drengk, Jens Hamann presents exciting recitals of songs and lieder.
