Nadezhda Tzanova Pianist
In 2011, NADEZHDA TZANOVA completed her Master's degree in Piano and began her specialization at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels under the guidance of Prof. Boyan Vodenicharov. At the same time, she continued her studies at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where she earned the prestigious Diplôme De Concert, the highest award for concert pianists.
Her international career took off in 2013 when she won first prize at the Flame International Piano Competition in Paris, marking the beginning of her worldwide concert activities. Since then, she has performed internationally, giving solo recitals and collaborating with orchestras in Japan, China, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Germany, and the USA.
Nadezhda has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Kharkov Symphony Orchestra (Ukraine), the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra (Japan), the Illinois Philharmonic (USA), the Regensburg Symphony Orchestra (Germany), as well as the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, among many others. She has also performed with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and the Salzburg Soloists Chamber Orchestra.
Her collaboration with trumpet player Petar Makedonski formed a highly successful duo, which won five awards at international competitions in a short period of time. Their performance of Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Concerto, which they have performed with various orchestras and conductors, became one of their signature pieces. Their concert program was featured on French national radio in 2018, and their recordings were added to the "Golden Fund" of Bulgarian National Radio. In 2017, the duo was awarded the "Musician of the Year" prize in the Ensemble category.
In 2021, Nadezhda gave a special concert at the Palace of Catherine the Great, with the recording broadcast to a wide Russian audience on the occasion of the May 24th holiday. Her creative versatility was showcased in 2022 when she realized the original project "Esperanza for Ballet," with music composed by Academician Vasil Kazandjiev. This collaboration, which began in 2019, featured choreography by Arsen Mehrabyan from the Swedish Royal Ballet and dancers from the Swedish Royal Ballet and Sofia Opera. It marked the premiere of Kazandjiev's first chamber ballet.
In 2023, the second part of her "Esperanza" trilogy was realized with "Virtuoso Movements – Esperanza in Classical Music," again in collaboration with Kazandjiev. This multidisciplinary work brought together music, text, and movement, referencing mythological figures such as Aphrodite, Pythia, and Orpheus.
Her artistic achievements were recognized in 2023 when she received the prestigious "Musician of the Year" award as part of the Allegro Vivace program, for her active contributions to music and culture.
At the end of 2023, Nadezhda began working on the creation of a foundation in honor of her long-time collaborator, Academician Vasil Kazandjiev, to support his students and protégés. In September 2024, she was appointed Artistic Director of the Theodora von Auersperg (TvA) International Foundation, where she continues to redefine the boundaries of classical music and the arts.
Nadezhda's repertoire is highly versatile, encompassing both solo programs and chamber music. She frequently appears on television and records for Bulgarian National Radio, further solidifying her position as one of the most versatile and dynamic musicians of her generation.
